What is Scrip?

Picture this: You make your usual weekly visit to the grocery store. You fill your cart as always — with fresh fruit or frozen french fries, tenderloin or chicken — and head up front to check out. Your purchases are scanned and bagged, you get your total, and you pay your $100. Guess what? You just made $5 for Holy Cross School.

How’s that possible? Welcome to scrip.  The concept is simple.  Holy Cross School purchases gift certificates, or scrip, from popular retailers such as:.

• Cub Foods
• Kohls
• Best Buy

at a discount, which the retailers are happy to give because they are guaranteeing themselves customers and some goodwill advertising.

Parents and school supporters then buy the gift certificates from the school at face value. The difference in price is kept by the school. Parents then spend the scrip at the retailer, where it’s worth the full face value.

You haven’t spent an extra dime to help Holy Cross School, nor have you had to change stores.

Our school earnings can really add up!  An average family spends $100, per week, at the grocery store. 

$100 x 52 weeks = $5,200/yr

School earnings:

$5,200 x .05 = $260/yr

The same works for gift giving.  Families can purchase gift cards through the Scrip Program.  Holy Cross School can benefit anywhere from 2% to 30% of the face value. 

As the consumer, you are not paying anything extra out-of-pocket, and the retailer is giving  Holy Cross School a percentage of your purchase.

How will the Scrip Program work at Holy Cross School?

Every Thursday folder will contain an envelope in which you can order Scrip for various retailers.

All orders will be due on the following Monday.  The orders will be processed by the CPO (Crusader Parent Organization).  The Scrip will then be available on Friday of that week. 

The list of retailers on the order form will be just a small percentage of those available to order. 

Each family will be provided with a complete list at the beginning of the program.  The retailer list can also be found at www.glscrip.com.  You are able to order Scrip for any retailer listed on that site 

When is the Scrip Program Available?

The Scrip Program is a year-round program.  Since your grocery shopping and gift giving do not stop during the summer, you will be able to purchase Scrip even during the summer.

Holiday Gift Giving:

During the months of November and December, we will have Scrip onsite at school, for some of the more popular retailers (ie. Kohls, Best Buy & JCPenney) .
